Project Details

• Planned Improvement: Three-lane widening
• Length of Project: 2.4 miles 
• Estimated Cost: $25.0 million

 Justification

• Safety: Poor sight distance at the intersection of SC Highway 274 and Pole Branch Road
• Traffic Volume: 6,200 vehicles per day; expected to increase to 9,200 vehicles per day by 2022

Purpose

• To provide additional roadway capacity and improve traffic operations

Planned Improvements

• Upgrade SC Highway 274 to a five-lane section (0.5 miles) including a center turn lane, paved shoulders and ditches from just south of Mill Creek to SC Highway 279 (Pole Branch Road)
• Realign Pole Branch Road at the intersection with SC Highway 274
• Upgrade SC Highway 279 (Pole Branch Road) to a three-lane section including a center turn lane, paved shoulders and ditches from SC Highway 274 to the NC state line
